Apple release Java Flashback malware removal update

Earlier this week I reported on the Java Flashback malware that has been targeting Mac OS X users. Apple has in the last few days developed a Flashback malware Java removal tool for those who might have been infected with this malware.

I suggest you download* and install this Java software update immediately. This update also configures the Java web plug-in to disable the automatic execution of Java applets. Users may re-enable automatic execution of Java applets using the Java Preferences application. If the Java web plug-in detects that no applets have been run for an extended period of time it will again disable Java applets.

*You can also use  Software Update to download and install this update.

Note: For security buffs and in case your browser has been hijacked 🙁 the SHA1 should be: f3a37aaeace6731c427c76b277c8741d9d6e0220

Java for OS X Lion 2012-003 delivers Java SE 6 version 1.6.0_31 and supersedes all previous versions of Java for OS X Lion. This update is recommended for all Mac users with Java installed.

Safe surfing folks!
