Mobile Chip & Pin (POS) are not secure

Mobile Chip and Pin (Point of Sale systems) provide customers, especially in restaurants with the flexibility to pay at their tables – mostly to improve the customer experience. These devices however are not secure at all. The biggest problem is that unlike standard security systems on POS systems they do not provide verification or encryption of data and payment information from end to end.

Mobile Chip and Pin POS data can be intercepted by someone else with a laptop and some simple intercept software. Do you actually want your sensitive financial data being transmitted over in-secure airwaves? Probably not. A leading POS system provider in the US has recently introduced a secure mobile POS system. Let us all hope that this system if proven successful, is taken up by all businesses who use mobile POS systems.
